Art and Artists

Picture

With such natural beauty of the Seychelles, it is with no surprise to discover that it has become the home and inspiration to numerous artists. The majority of the artists live on Mahe, but galleries can be found on the other islands as well. Whilst touring the island of Mahe, you will often see signposts indicating a gallery or artistís home, stop and have a look, you will be made welcome and are under no obligation to buy, indeed the artists will be happy simply to discuss their art and life with you.

Artists of the Seychelles include: Donald Adelaide, Michael Adams, James Auguste, Tom Bauers, Alain Camille, Georges Camille, Gerald Devoud, Antonio Flippin, Christine Harter, Nigel Henri, to name but just a few.

One can buy originals and prints in Christyís Art Gallery (in Quincy Street, Victoria) and in the gallery of Christine Harter (Cafe díArt, Praslin). Most artists have his/her own gallery at their home, where visitors can simply take a look, and buy if they wish.

On the outskirts of Victoria in the direction of the Beau Vallon beach, opposite the bus stop, is a small wooden teahouse. This teahouse is also a gallery, exhibiting various pieces of artwork from the Seychelles, which are also for sale. The visitor can relax in a nice enjoyable atmosphere, drink a tea or coffee, eat a slice of cake, and marvel at the paintings.

On Praslin, Cote díOr, one will find Christine Harterís gallery, Cafe díArt. It serves as a gallery, exhibiting works in the rear rooms, and as a superb restaurant stretching out onto the beach.
