The romantic amongst you may have already thought about a wedding in paradise, to say your oaths to a loved one under a blanket of palm trees. For those of you who are planning your wedding now, or will be in the near future, think about a romantic wedding just the two of you in paradise, just the two of you in the Seychelles.
The Seychelles have been a favourite with Honeymoon couples, and even a few marry during their stay on the islands. Your wedding can be arranged on the beach, in the hotel, in the grounds of an old colonial house, or wherever you wish. The ceremony is performed by the local Registrar, there after if you so wish, it is possible to have a church ceremony, for example in the wonderful small church on La Digue. Weddings can usually be arranged through the travel agent, and they will take care of all the little important things for you. Special travel agents exist, which specialise in arranging weddings in paradise, these being a little more expensive. Church weddings, and all of the paperwork that is required must usually be organised by yourself, speak with your local priest and the priest of the chosen church on the Seychelles. The Seychelles tourist office will be happy to supply you with all the information you require.
The wedding is recognised within the European countries, and also within most other countries. You will require your passport, birth certificate and any divorce papers if applicable. These must be brought with you, in original form, along with an authorised translation into either English or French if in another language. Both parties must be at least 18 years of age, and have been resident within the Seychelles for at least 11 days. A special fee of SR 100 can be paid in order to marry within the first 11 days of your stay. Two witnesses are also required, which will be supplied by the hotel if none are travelling with you.
The ceremony would usually take place late afternoon, but you are free to choose the time of day. The afternoon is recommended since it is a little cooler for those of you wishing to wear thick dresses or suits. In the evening, after the ceremony, a special meal will be provided for you, usually the menu being of your choice. If you wish for a quiet romantic candle lit dinner for 2, this can be arranged, as can a meal with the rest of the guests, sharing your day to remember with everybody else.
Your wedding day should be a day to remember for the rest of your life, and your wedding day on the Seychelles will be just that! You are assured of a wonderful romantic day, a day never to forget, a day you will wish to repeat year after year, after year.
